Professor Walter Jamieson has more than 35 years of experience in academia in five different countries, and consultancy activities in over 20 countries. He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Calgary (Canada) and has 28 years of experience at the university. His activities include research and consultancy work in China, as well as extensive community-based tourism work in Asia, exploring the power of tourism as a tool for economic and social development. He is currently Director of the Service Innovation Program and Distinguished Fellow in Urban Design, Faculty of Architecture and Planning, at Thammasat University (Thailand). He was the former Dean of the School of Travel Industry Management at the University of Hawai’i. His consultancy activities include assignments with the United Nations World Tourism Organization, ADB, ESCAP and UNESCO. Professor Jamieson has undertaken over 150 international research and consultancy projects with over 250 publications, papers and presentations. In 2012, he was elected to the College of Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Planners. His recent consultancy activities include the ASEAN Tourism Strategic Plan, ASEAN Tourism Marketing Strategy, Myanmar Tourism Master Plan as well as extensive work for the Department of Tourism in Thailand.
