Professor Risto Hilpinen has more than 40 years of experience in research and academia, specifically in the field of Philosophy of Science. He is Professor of Philosophy at the University of Miami (United States). He has been a Visiting Professor at several prestigious universities that include Stanford University, as well as several research fellowships that include Harvard University. His lectureship covers numerous academic institutions in Europe, Asia, America, and Australasia. In 1998, Professor Hilpinen was conferred the Knight of the Order of the White Rose (First Class) by the President of Finland. He is the author of more than 100 articles on logic, philosophy of science and epistemology, the logic and semantics of normative discourse, theory of action and practical reasoning, the nature of artifacts, philosophy of language, and the semiotics of C. S. Peirce, and he has edited several books and journal issues on deontic logic and the philosophy of science. He is the former Secretary General of the International Union of the History and Philosophy of Science, Division of Logic, Methodology, and Philosophy of Science (IUHPS/DLMPS). He is the Past President of the Charles S. Peirce Society, and is a member of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters and of Institut International de Philosophie.
